Care Ministry
Healing for Heart and Soul
- Training
- A grief support training class at Faith led by Chaplain Ron Ritter of “Cross My Heart Ministry” (Pacific Southwest District/The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod).
- This five-week class provided tools in ministering to those dealing with losses in their lives—
- from the death of a spouse,
- to loss of employment,
- to coping with being the caregiver for a long-term sick family member.
- The care team’s first and foremost priority is prayer—asking God for guidance and direction from His Holy Spirit in order to be the Arms of Jesus, bring comfort and support to others.
- Congregational awareness is very important so that people in need can be referred to the Care Giving Ministry Team and that members of Faith Lutheran Church can volunteer with acts of kindness and care.
- Scriptural Foundation
- “Whatever you do for one of the least of these… You do for me.” — Matthew 24:25
- I was in the hospital—hurting, alone, frightened. You visited me.
- The duties of caregiver to a homebound spouse wore me down. You listened to my frustrations and hurts.
- My pet died, my only companion for years. You grieved with me.
- I was angry and anxious when my job was terminated. You phoned to see how I was coping.
- Divorce. It’s an ugly word. I didn’t know where to begin following the separation. You didn’t give advice or criticize.
- Our youngest left home for college. The house was so quiet. You stopped by. We laughed and cried together.
- You promised to pray for me when a difficult decision had to be made. Your kindness and God’s faithfulness supported me.
- “Whatever you do for one of the least of these… You do for me.” — Matthew 24:25
